Frequently asked questions
Getting started
ShareMeUp is an online investment platform that helps you invest in listed securities on the NZX main board. You can make share purchases on a one-off or recurring basis.
You choose the companies you want to invest in—we will instruct a broker to order those shares on your behalf which will be registered in your own name.
You will need:
- An email address
- A mobile number
- To be 18 years or older
- To be a New Zealand tax resident
- To have a New Zealand passport or driver's licence for identity verification
To start investing:
- Visit app.sharemeup.co.nz
- Sign up for an account
- Top up your wallet
- Set up an investment—this can be a market order (one-off) or an automatic investment at a frequency you choose (weekly, fortnightly, four weekly or monthly)
Fees & payments
There are two types of fees:
- Transfer fee—this is the amount charged by BlinkPay (our payment provider) to add money your wallet. It is only charged if you choose ‘Instant Bank Transfer’.
Manual Bank Transfers have no fee but can take one to two working days to show in your wallet. - Transaction fee—this is the amount charged by ShareMeUp and the broker to process your order.
The transfer fee for topping up your wallet using ‘Instant Bank Transfer’ is 0.59% of your chosen top up amount, capped at $3.00. The transaction fee for an order is 1.25% of your chosen investment amount.
We make money by:
- earning interest on any money held in our trust account before the settlement of your shares; and
- receiving a transaction fee for every purchase made.
If you are investing for the first time in a specific company using ShareMeUp, your first investment amount must be a minimum of $250. After that, the minimum amount will be the price of one share in that company.
There are currently two payment options:
- Instant Bank Transfer—powered by BlinkPay, this option lets you instantly and securely top up your wallet. You can also create an automatic top up to add money to your wallet when your balance falls below an amount you choose.
- Manual Bank Transfer—this option lets you top up your wallet, but the money will take one to two days to show in your wallet.
Instant Bank Transfer
- Particulars: TOP UP
- Code: SMU
- Reference: <Your CSN>
Manual Bank Transfer
- Uses the details you enter when setting up the payment through your banking app. Use your CSN as the reference so we can match your payment to your wallet.
Investing
Automatic investments make it easy to buy shares regularly when it suits you. You choose a frequency and the shares you want to buy, and we order them on the investment start date, and at your chosen frequency after that.
For example:
- Weekly: choose a day of week to invest every week
- Fortnightly: choose a day of week to invest every other week
- Four Weekly: choose a day of week to invest every four weeks
- Monthly: choose a day of the month to invest every month
Yes, simply:
- Set up an automatic investment
- Add the companies you want to invest in
- Choose a frequency
You can repeat these steps with different companies and frequencies.
When you invest through ShareMeUp, your purchased shares are registered in your own name instead of a custodian. This means any dividends are paid directly to your bank account.
You can check your bank account by visiting the Investor Centre. If you haven’t created a portfolio, you will need your CSN and Authorisation Code (FIN) to get started.
You can invest in any companies available on ShareMeUp. If you are investing for the first time in a specific company, your investment amount must be a minimum of $250.
Only NZX-listed companies where MUFG Pension & Market Services is the share registrar are currently available in ShareMeUp.
We are always looking to improve ShareMeUp and hope to add all NZX-listed companies soon.
Common Shareholder Number (CSN)
When creating your account, choose ‘Create New’ when asked to ‘Link a CSN’—supply your details and we will set one up for you. Note you won’t be able to invest until this has been done.
We accept CSNs that are in an individual’s name or joint names. CSNs belonging to a company or trust can’t be used.
Only shares bought through ShareMeUp are shown—we plan to add registry balances in the future.
We don’t show share balances purchased outside ShareMeUp now, but plan to add these in a future update.
